JAKARTA,
April 26 (AFP) - Two
Indonesians who had been detained in the Philippines for more than a month on
suspicion of terrorism returned home Friday to a heroes welcome, vowing to sue
the Philippines government.
Hundreds of waiting Muslim activists shouted "God is Great" and
"Welcome Back Our Heroes" as Tamsil Linrung and Abdul Jamal Balfas
arrived at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta airport.
Linrung, a former member of influential upper house speaker Amien Rais' National Mandate Party, said he planned to sue the Philippine government for "wrongful arrest and planting evidence."
Linrung, Balfas and their compatriot, Agus Dwirkana, were arrested at Manila airport on their way to Bangkok on March 13, after explosives were allegedly found in Linrung's luggage.
"In the (Manila) court I pointed out the man who put the stuff into my bag," said Linrung.
The two were released after Manila granted a request from Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri to set both free, President Gloria Arroyo's spokesman Silvestre Afable said Thursday.
Dwirkana, however, remains in detention. The Indonesian intelligence service has sought custody of Dwirkana but the Philippine Justice Department is still investigating him, Afable said.
Afable said "there is supposedly evidence against him."
Linrung and some Indonesian politicians claimed the Philippine arrest was politically motivated and alleged that the trio were detained apparently at Jakarta's request.
The
three Indonesians said in court earlier this month that they had affidavits to
prove their innocence, even though police claimed they found bomb making
materials in their luggage when they were arrested.
